Birthday Ideas

Tanner and I just got back from our first trip to the Farmer's Market this summer. I have been eagerly awaiting it's opening! I returned with these peonies (the green and peach flowers are from my own backyard), some strawberries, a tomato, green leaf lettuce, and some peach-strawberry jam. The funny thing is that several of the vendors are from the area where I grew up in Michigan. Their prices are almost double here! YIKES!! Tanner had a great time because there were lots of little kids walking around and there was also a booth for pet rescue, complete with kennels and some really cute dogs. Almost made me want one -- ALMOST!!

If you haven't noticed from our birthday ticker, Tanner is getting ready to turn a year old this Sunday! Jon and I can't believe it and were just talking this morning about how, on this day last year, I was going into labor and finally admitted to the hospital at night. Jon insisted that I went to the hospital on a Wednesday and didn't have Tanner until Saturday, but I know better! We were admitted on a Thursday night (after being sent home earlier that morning :) and Tanner arrived on Friday at 6:44 PM! Craziness! More reminiscing to come in the next few days ...

In the meantime ... I have a birthday party to plan! We're celebrating over July 4th since most of our siblings will be in town. We're just doing something low-key on my parents' deck with family only, but I still want to make it special! Any ideas??? I'm determined to make my own cake for him and put all those decorating classes to good use, but unfortunately, I'm not very creative when it comes to designing things myself. I'm pretty good at copying, though. Does anyone know of some good websites where I can go for kids' birthday cakes? I would love any ideas you have to offer!!

Off to get some work done! Hope you're having a fabulous summer day!

I bought a cute book with Kids birthday party themes from Michaels. The have some cool stuff.

I defnietly suggest buying balloons. Kyle loved them for his first birthday. He played with them an entire month that they stayed up.

Good luck with the planning.

Michael's has some great cake pans for kids. They even give directions for icing, with a color and icing tip guide. I made Brady an Elmo one last year and it was so much fun. Can't wait to see pics from the big day!

When I made the cake for Taylor's party, I just searched butterfly images online and then used the transfer clear "stuff" (how's that for a technical name) from Michaels to trace the image and then put it on the cake.
Also, like everyone else has said, Michaels has some good patterns and cake pans.

Also, I got the plastic letters for Taylor's name at Hobby Lobby. But they weren't in the cake decorating section...I can't remember where exactly. My handwriting isn't as good as yours, so opted for the easy way with lettering.

Glad you enjoyed the farmers market. Beautiful flowers!

Oh, I think I specifically searched for butterfly patterns. Patterns came up with simple lines, etc. I know you're not going to do butterflies...but you know what I mean!

Rachel,

Hey-- it's been a while. My sister-in-law just made a dump truck cake for my nephew's 1st birthday. There are pictures on www.kandbpowers.blogspot.com.

Side note-- I had a little girl on June 13th. Elle Marie, 8 lbs. 14 oz., 21 inches long.
