Summer Promises

Mother nature teased us with some more FANTASTIC weather earlier in the week. It's amazing how the nice weather can immediately lift my spirits and make me feel so at peace with the world and life in general. I am SO anxious for summer to finally come to stay! Here's a few reasons why:

  1. I LOVE LOVE LOVE seeing my little boy in shorts and short-sleeves. I can't get enough of his soft skin and chubby arms and legs! I had forgotten over the winter how dang cute they were!
  2. Is there anything better than opening your windows during the day to let the breeze in and hear the sounds of kids playing, birds, lawnmowers, etc?
  3. My husband happens to be an excellent griller. That means yummy food and less cooking for me!
  4. Tanner will be so much more fun this summer than last! I can't wait to take him swimming, go to the zoo, play outside, have picnics (see below), ...

I could go on, but I won't. I've been wondering lately if I would feel this way all the time if I lived in a warmer climate. I don't think I would. There's something about the changing of the seasons that makes you appreciate the beginning of each one all the more. The excitement of those first snowflakes, the first signs of new life in the spring, the relief from cool weather in the summer, and then the promise of beautiful foliage and lots of football in the fall. What are you looking forward to most this summer?

Eating off a plate like a big boy. SO delighted to be outside.

Waving to the landscapers next door.

Oh no -- my hat! I don't want this bald head to get sunburned!

    Rachel,
You are going to have so much fun with Tanner this Summer! Taking him to the pool, the park, the zoo...all those great outdoor activities. I wish we lived closer so we could do it together! I am most looking forward to the feeling you get from taking a shower after long days playing outside and getting dirty. Weird, but I love it! Give Tanner a big kiss for me!

He is too cute! I wished I lived closer so we could picnic together. Kennedy LOVES being outside. Although, I don't think I could ever get her to sit still and eat off a plate. That is impressive. Give Tanner some big hugs for me!

Tanner is so adorable!!! I love the idea of picnics with our little guy when he's old enough. This summer we're looking forward to going home to SC so the rest of our family can meet Grady. I also love that it stays light out so late in the summertime and that people are just outside more!

I would say I'm looking forward to moving in July, but I'm not. I am looking forward to exploring Atlanta with the boys once we get settled.

I am looking forward to (well, we're already at the point, actually) not having to put coats on the kids, watching them play in the pool, and watching them ride their bikes every day. We are also looking forward to taking some small trips as a family to explore this beautiful state of New Mexico!

Moving from Vermont to New Mexico a few weeks ago has allowed us an earlier experience of summertime weather. And we are LOVING it!

    Enjoy your beautiful weather!

p.s. I've been reading your blog forever, but am just now commenting - I don't know why it took me so long! :)

Hi Rachel! I've been thinking just like you with this warm weather. I think we appreciate it b/c we look SOOOOO forward to it! You will have lots of fun with him this summer -- If you're looking for a good birthday gift for him that will provide lots of fun and entertainment outside, I got a Step 2 Sand & Water Table last year and it's great! All the kiddies love it, and it's not as messy as a sandbox :-) He loves it even more this year!

Great suggestion above re: the sand and water table. We are going to have to get one of those for the boys this summer--they just LOVE to do anything associated with digging and splashing! :)

We are so looking forward this summer to exploring our new town after our move in a week! The library and YMCA are both right down the street, which should offer fun distractions for us. I've also signed the boys up for Toddler Time at the Farm (at a local farm) where they will enjoy a story, activity, and visit from a farm animal. Too cute!

So excited for you, Rachel, as you and Tanner venture out! Blessings... :)
