Fussy Boy

My little boy has been so fussy this weekend! I wonder if it's because there is so much more going on here during the weekends when Jon is home than on a normal weekday, when it's just me and Tanner and things are pretty quiet around here. I'm also wondering if I made a mistake introducing the pacifier. It really helps to soothe him, but it is constantly falling out of his mouth, making him upset. UGGH!!! He finally went down to sleep at a little past 8:00 this evening, and so far, it's the longest he's been asleep all day. And believe me, Jon and I have tried several times today to put him down for a nap! Hopefully, we can get back into the swing of things tomorrow! :)

Tanner's two week check-up was this past Friday. He did SO good with the doctor! Not one little fuss, and he was naked almost the whole time (which he usually hates!). The doctor we saw was the same one who saw Tanner in the hospital and I love him! He is just so laid back and good at helping you not to worry about every little thing as a parent. I will have to request him for all of our appointments. My little guy has been growing like a weed! He put on 12 oz. since the last appointment, 8 days earlier, and has already grown over an inch since he was born! I'm so proud of him, but also feeling a little sad as I prepare to pack some of his newborn outfits away, as he is getting too big for them.

We had company again this weekend. One of Jon's good friends, Nick, who he met in Iraq came to visit. Nick was called back to the Army on Individual Ready Reserves and served with Jon's unit for part of the time he was there. It was the most Army talk I've heard in a long time. I know it's wierd, but I've kind of missed that! Jon used to have so much really interesting stuff to talk about when he came home from work each day. Anyways, it was nice to finally meet this friend that I've heard so many stories about.

Well, I better get going. Jon and I are getting ready to watch a movie we rented -- "Half Nelson" with Ryan Gossling. I hope it's good! I'll probably fall asleep, though. I always do!

Brady was EXACTLY the same way on weekends. Once we were back in the routine of the week, he always was much better. He'll grow out of it :) As for the up for hours at night thing, well, unfortunately, that happens. Brady still does that from time to time if he is going through a growth spurt, teething, or trying to develop a new motor skill (believe it or not!) Honestly, when I wasn't getting anywhere, I would wake Mike up and he could magically get him to sleep. Don't be afraid to ask for Jon's help, even if it's in the middle of the night - Tanner is his baby, too!

Living so far away from my fiance and post, I can also relate to missing the whole army talk...that's why I go to the blogs...got to get my fix!

Your baby updates are great...keep them coming!

Rachel,

You are doing a fabulous job as a new mom. But, even moms don't know all the answers. Brady is bound to have nights when he won't sleep. That is just the newborn stage. They sleep through the night before you know it and you are wondering where your little one went. I agree, wake Jon up too. Even if it is just one awakening, you will get some much needed sleep. He may be the one who leaves the house to work, but you are working hard too. I just can not believe when I check your ticker, the days go so fast! I can remember sitting up with both kids as babies, going downstairs, turning on the T.V. (in Germany where we only had AFN) and trying to find something to watch to keep me awake. Does he like his swing if you prop him up or the bouncy chair? I would even use those at night. I guess, my best piece of advice is...don't listen to all the things that say you shouldn't...you shouldn't hold your baby too much, you shouldn't do this, you shouldn't do that...you DO whatever works for Tanner. Every mom resorts to something that is on the shouldn't do list, and our kids are fine:)

I know the frustration with the pacifier...both of my kids were pacifier junkies. But, it worked for us. It won't be long until Tanner can keep it in his mouth better and then in a short while after that...he'll be able to put it back in all by himself. They just grow too fast!

We love reading your updates, you are enjoying motherhood so much and it is fun to read. Best of luck getting some sleep:)

I think Stephanie likes me better-that's why she wrote Brady instead of Tanner.

Oh, and by the way, there were MANY nights that Brady slept in his swing - he was once in there for 7 hours! I felt guilty, but also got 7 hours of straight sleep, so not too guilty ;)

Rachel,
I love all the posting. Tanner is a cutie-ba-tooty! You keep enjoying every minute at home. Trust me, you're not missing ANYTHING here at school; 2 + 2 is STILL 4. I'll check in every now and then. Good luck with your new job--spoiling the heck outta that precious lil' boy!
