Mexico Anniversary Trip

This January, Jon and I celebrated our 10 year anniversary!!!  Where has the time gone?  We really wanted to make a big deal of it and decided to celebrate by taking a trip to Mexico without the kiddos.  The weekend after Tanner's preschool graduation, we dropped the boys off with my parents, and headed to paradise.

I did a lot of research about which resort to go to.  We ended up at Excellence Playa Mujeres.  When I saw the pictures online, they looked amazing.  I thought it looked like a really nice place, but was sure that the pictures were doctored up a bit.  Nothing could be that perfect.  Man, was I surprised when I got there!  It was GORGEOUS -- even better than the pictures.  Jon and I kept looking around and saying to each other  "What did we do to deserve this??"  The resort was adults only and really very quiet.  It was mostly honeymooners and couples.  We were surprised at how many people were staying 2-3 weeks.  We even met someone who had just sold his business and brought his family to stay for 2 months!  Crazy!  The food was wonderful and we had so many options for dinner each night.  Our favorite was the Tapas restaurant and the French Restaurant.

We stayed for 4 nights, which was the perfect amount of time to leave our little ones behind.  I can't say I really missed them while I was there (did I just say that?) but I sure was glad to see them when we got back!  We played a lot of water volleyball and beach volleyball.  Other than that, we just laid back, relaxed, read our books, napped.  Mission accomplished!

HaHa!  My very own "Bachelor!"  Don't worry, I accepted the rose :)

Our first afternoon at the beach, relaxing in our own little cabana.

A few room pics ...

Our balcony ... we LOVED the little bed on the patio to relax and read on!

The View from our balcony -- one of the quieter pools, with the ocean in the background.

The spa :  We did an awesome marine wellness circuit here.  We liked it so much, we went back again the next day!  It's a circuit of all these different stations -- you start in a steam room, then they pour cool water on you, exfoliate your back with ice and salt (very quickly), and send you into the sauna.  Once that's over, you do a cold plunge, then a hot plunge, then go to a few different stations inside a pool with different jets and faucets that are very relaxing.  At the end, they help you out of the pool and you lay on these warm stone beds and get a shoulder and scalp massage.  It was awesome!!

One of the pools -- we thought these hammocks everywhere were so cool.

Ice cream anytime??  Umm ... YEEEESSSS!!!  And my new favorite drink -- an iceberg.

Relaxing at the pool on our last day

Breakfast on our balcony the last morning.

Every night, we went ahead and scheduled our breakfast to be delivered the next morning and set up on our balcony.  One of our favorite parts of the day.

Playing a little water volleyball.  We spent most of our time at this pool.

The only bad thing about going on vacation with just the two of us -- nobody to take our pictures.  This was our attempt at a self-portrait one night before dinner.

Our last picture right before leaving.

We truly had the BEST time.  We promised each other that we wouldn't let it be another 10 years before we got away like this again.
