I've been thinking about a few things that help to make my life as a new mom a little bit sweeter. Just FYI -- they are all about making MY day a little better, not necessarily Tanner's. I know -- so selfish! But you know what they say -- "If Mamma ain't happy, ain't nobody happy!"
1) Always keep a pair of warm slippers and a sweatshirt next to your bed. It makes getting out of bed in the middle of the night so much more comfortable!
2) Make a batch of chocolate chip cookies and roll the batter into balls. (try not to eat too many of these!) Freeze in a tupperware container. I always look forward to a few minutes to myself after I put Tanner down for his afternoon nap, where I can just check my email or read a magazine, etc. I pop a cookie in the oven (okay, sometimes two) and have a fresh baked treat!
3) Make yourself some coffee in the morning. Put on Good Morning America in the background.
4) If possible, TiVo Oprah everyday. Watch it while you're feeding the baby. :) (If you TiVo it, you can watch it in bits and pieces.)
5) Take advantage of the child-care centers at the gym and at church.
6) Don't feel guilty about rocking your baby to sleep for naps or at bedtime. Enjoy every second of it and make sure to memorize the smell of their skin. Before long, they'll be too big to cuddle up in your lap like that!
7) Instead of watching/listening to the TV while you clean, go to http://www.family.org/ and listen to one of their daily broadcasts.
8) Join a book club. It's a great feeling to have an intelligent conversation about something you've read.
9) Go to http://www.kraftfoods.com/ and sign up to receive their magazine. It's free and full of quick and yummy recipes.
What are some things you would add??

Instead of coffee I like to drink Earl Grey with whipped cream every morning and I also have a tiny magazine addiction. And I always try to find time for a bath, although sometimes I end up with two little boys in the tub with me!
Great ideas!!! I love the fresh baked cookie one! Thanks!
Love the ideas, Rachel! Here's one--place a Starbucks gift card in the console of every car. That way, you can grab a cup of joe while you're out and never feel guilty (and you'll always have it)! Nothing makes a car smell nicer than Starbucks!! :)
One other quick one: find time for small family traditions, like coffee and donuts after church. Even if everyone is merely munching on theirs in the car, it's enough to put smiles on faces!
love the kraft food website...great idea!
That is some great advice! I will be a first time mom in August or September and I might end up back here! I already went to the Kraft site and found a great dinner recipe! I came here by way of Itzy Bitzy Me, by the way!
