Tanner is asking Santa for a big-boy car seat for Christmas this year (i.e. Convertible Car Seat). Does any one have any recommendations for which brand and/or model they think is best? I've heard a lot of good things about Britax, but know they are very expensive. I would love any advice you have to give!!

Hi Rachel! We went with Britax. I love the roundabout. It gets great safety ratings and I find it really easy to get Taylor in and out of it. We originally got the Blvd. model but it was too big and harder to get her in and out of. She seems very comfy in the round about. I love how there is Velcro to hold the straps back while getting her in and out. I don't think you can really go wrong with Britax though. I recommend installing it in the parking lot to make sure it 1) fits in your car and 2) is easy to get Tanner in and out of. Good luck! Lisa
I got the Britax Marathon because it has the highest weight limit - and Brady was well on his way to a heavyweight when we had to switch at 6 months. I love it - I feel so safe with it and that is worth all the money in the world!
Rachel, I totally agree with Lisa and Carolyn. Britax is the way to go... We also have the Britax Roundabout and love it, but would also have just as easily gone with the Britax Marathon, which allows for a higher weight limit. They are often ranked the safest and most parent-friendly! And let's be honest, we're talking about our precious children's safety--ONLY the best! I love the straps' quick release button, the velcro for the straps (mentioned by Lisa), and the LATCH quick release buttons (which make for EASY switching of the car seat!) For car seats, it's these little things that really make the difference!!!
I think he is beginning to look more and more like me
Get one that can work for an older toddler (65-80 pounds). I regret not getting the Britax because I bet I have spent that on buying new ones . . . my boy is tall and his head was above the back. Britax is for taller kids! Go to a store and try them out in your car . . . they do take up a lot of room!
hi rachel! Well, I'm the odd one out here, b/c I decided not to go with Britax b/c we just couldn't afford it at the time... I have heard wonderful things about the roundabout. I researched the best crash test rated carseats on consumer reports, and found the Evenflo Triumph 5 to be the highest safety, but lowest priced car seat -- it's actually 1/2 the price and got the same exact rating score as the roundabout. Good luck w/ your decision!
We had a Britax Roundabout for my daughter and it was nice, but she could get out of it very easily by just pressing down on the button. I got the plastic lock from Britax and she had that figured out in no time. This time we went with the Britax Marathon for my son. I didn't like the Boulevard, just personal preference because some people love it. Good luck and try them out in your car first to make sure they fit!
